Jetstar delivers WLG, SYD to Queenstown

Just in time for Christmas, Queenstown welcomed new direct Jetstar flights from Wellington and Sydney, bringing competition to the routes.
Jetstar Australia & NZ CEO, David Hall, said “In addition to our new Sydney and Wellington flights, we’ve introduced an extra weekly Melbourne service and two extra weekly flights to Auckland.

Kiwi community groups off to a Flying Start

Jetstar this week launched a new programme to help not-for-profit community groups and organisations fund projects that will enrich the lives of people in their local community. Jetstar’s Flying Start Programme is now open for applications and will offer a $30,000 grant, made up of $15,000 worth of Jetstar travel and a cash grant of $15,000, to a local New Zealand community group or organisation each quarter.

Jetstar 787s for Auckland

Tourism New Zealand, Jetstar deal to lure more visitors

New Zealand is set to benefit from a $9 million, three-year deal between Tourism New Zealand and Jetstar that will see the pair jointly promoting this country in Australia, Singapore, Japan and across the Asia region. They will each spend $1.5 million per year to a range of joint brand, promotional and tactical campaigns; consumer events; and print, online,
TV and social media activities. Activity will refer travellers to Jetstar.com to book fares and packages. Jetstar will increase
New Zealand destination content on its website to support the partnership.

Ash policy - some do, some don't

Qantas and Jetstar are maintaining their ‘safety-first’ stance and have been reiterating their stated policy of not flying beneath any volcanic ash cloud, regardless.
Meanwhile, Air New Zealand says it does not currently expect cancellations to its domestic or international services as a result of volcanic ash currently in New
Zealand airspace.

Jetstar moves to self-service check in

Jetstar has moved to sideline the traditional check-in counter, offering alternatives of automated SMS check-ins and new selfservice kiosks as a way of speeding up throughput, eliminating queues and minimizing terminal space. The low cost carrier has extended the SMS check-in it has been operating since 2009 with new SMS technology that incorporates recently developed textual optical character recognition.

Jetstar to serve Dunedin

From 14JUL, subject to regulatory approval, Dunedin will become Jetstar’s fifth New Zealand domestic port. It wants to introduce a new daily Auckland-Dunedin A320 service that will break the monopoly on the route. A Qantas code share will also operate on the route. Jetstar is offering every day web fares between AKL and DUD from $99, up to 40% lower than its competitor.
